Why am I having problems loading my program to my RCX?

If you are getting this message it is because you are having trouble communicating between your tower and your RCX.

Problems connecting to the tower include:

If the green light on the tower is not on, then the tower is not transmitting to the RCX. Check which port the tower is configured to (using the Administrator section of ROBOLAB) and also make sure all of the drivers are installed correctly on your computer. To change the port, go to Administrator -> Select USB port.

The batteries could be low. If you are using the serial port tower, then make sure its batteries are fresh. Also, make sure that the low battery symbol is not flashing on the RCX.

The RCX might be turned off. You cannot load a new program on the RCX while it is off, so make sure it is on before clicking on the Run button to download your program.

Make sure the RCX is pointed in the correct direction for optimal IR tower to RCX communication. A good way to remember the correct orientation is 'black to black'; the black part of the RCX (the IR receiver) must face the black IR tower in order to establish good communication. Also, make sure that none of your lego structure is blocking the IR port on the front of the RCX.
