Cause: The car in the picture below has only the motors attached to the bottom of the RCX. It is possible that the car will be able to remain at rest on its own, but as soon as it starts moving the motors will probably break off from the rest of the vehicle. This happens because when the wheels turn, forces are exerted on the points of contact between the motors and the car. Also, if a force is pushing down in the center of the RCX, the motors will split apart from each other. This force will almost always be present, as there is the mass of the car resting over the motors, and gravitational force pulls this mass towards the motors, resulting in stress that may break the motors away from the main body of the car.

Bad motor attachment results in motors coming off.
Solution: This problem can be fixed by using pieces that connect both motors together for added stability. Also, more pieces can be used to attach the motors to the RCX so that it takes more force to remove them from the car. The motors should be adequately reinforced by connecting them both to the base of the RCX and each other.
