Why do I lose firmware every time I change the RCX batteries?

Every time the RCX is without 9V of power (usually supplied by the batteries), the firmware might be lost or corrupted.  To prevent this from happening, try these ideas:

- While changing batteries, first make sure to have new batteries nearby and ready to be inserted into the RCX. Next, take out one battery at a time and quickly replace it with a new battery before removing any other batteries. Keep replacing one battery at a time until all batteries have been replaced.

- Alternatively, when changing batteries, you might want to plug a "plug pack" into the RCX's AC adapter connection. Radio Shack sells an inexpensive 6xAA pack with a 9V clip on top and a cable that plugs into the RCX.
