- First of all, note that there are AC adapters available for both the RCX and NXT, so if you are building creations that can handle an electrical cord attachment, they can be powered by wall-unit electricity.
- Recommended AA batteries are non-rechargeable alkaline batteries. Heavy duty carbon batteries are not recommended, as they tend to leak.
- Energizer industrial alkaline batteries can be purchased from electrical wholesalers for about 1/3 of their retail price.
- If you choose to buy generic alkaline batteries instead of those made by a recognized brand, be sure to test the battery size before buying them in bulk. Some generic batteries are slightly too short to make good contact with the electrical connections in the RCX battery case.
- You may also use rechargeable AA batteries. For considerations about rechargeable AA batteries, see the Knowledgebase page: "Can I use rechargeable batteries in the RCX?"
- For the NXT, you may also use the rechargeable battery unit designed specifically for the NXT. It is available from LEGO Retail and LEGO Education.
