There have been several reports of install problems of the LME NXT software (NXT-G) on Macintosh eMac machines running OS 10.4. These problems occur when the install CD is placed in the eMac's simple CD drive. The CD shows up on the desktop and the CD will open, but when the user tries to open the installer, there is no response. If you move the CD to a similar eMac with either a combo CD drive or a Super Drive, everything works as it should.
If you have had this problem, one solution is to make a 'disk image' on a computer with a read/write CD drive. Then transfer the disk image to the problematic computer and install the software from the disk image.
To create a disk image of your NXT-G software CD and transfer the software to the problematic computer:
- Put your software CD in the CD drive of a Macintosh with a read/write CD drive.
- Go to Applications --> Utilities --> Disk Utility, and open the Disk Utility application.
- Select the Mindstorms CD from the menu on the left.
- Go to File --> New --> Disk Image from Disk (Mindstorms)
- Enter a name for the disk image.
- Choose a location for saving the disk image.
- Choose the CD/DVD Master format for the disk image.
- Click Save.
- Wait for your disk image to be created.
- Use a USB key drive or network to transfer the disk image to the problematic eMac computer.
- Install the Mindstorms software from the disk image.
