{"id":10030,"date":"2015-04-07T12:01:23","date_gmt":"2015-04-07T02:01:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/legoeng.local?p=10030&#038;preview_id=10030"},"modified":"2015-12-21T09:36:50","modified_gmt":"2015-12-20T22:36:50","slug":"magic-moments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/magic-moments\/","title":{"rendered":"Magic Moments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes things come together in your class in such a way as to cause a smile to hit your face and remain there for the whole day.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s one such event:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Up, up, up!\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/YmGOgkFKvr8?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Why it&#8217;s cool:<\/p>\n<p>The class were working on the Move Without Wheels challenge.<\/p>\n<p>I was out for the day and the principal was covering my class.<\/p>\n<p>If students made their robot &#8220;move without wheels&#8221; I told my principal to challenge the students to drive over some obstacles.<\/p>\n<p>On their own, these two girls took all the NXT\/EV3\/Resource kit lids I had and created a staircase.<\/p>\n<p>Then they got their wheel-less robot to go up the staircase!<\/p>\n<p>So this was independent work going above and beyond what was required, displaying really cool mechanical engineering and using objects in the class to create their own challenge.<\/p>\n<p>When my principal sent me the video I was blown away.<\/p>\n<p>Ethan Danahy also loved how the robot reminded him of this Boston Dynamics robot, RHex.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"RHex Rough-Terrain Robot\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ISznqY3kESI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes things come together in your class in such a way as to cause a smile to hit your face and remain there for the whole day.
