{"id":12290,"date":"2017-06-23T13:15:21","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T03:15:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/?p=12290"},"modified":"2020-05-01T15:51:25","modified_gmt":"2020-05-01T05:51:25","slug":"make-way-for-ducklings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/make-way-for-ducklings\/","title":{"rendered":"Make Way for Ducklings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-12293 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-2-227x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"227\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-2-227x300.png 227w, http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-2-600x792.png 600w, http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-2.png 646w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 227px) 100vw, 227px\" \/><\/a>The classic children&#8217;s book\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Make_Way_for_Ducklings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Make Way For Ducklings<\/em><\/a> by Robert McCloskey provided inspiration for a workshop at the LEGO Learning Symposium 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Led by\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/about\/the-edge\/\">EDGErs<\/a>, the workshop\u00a0was intended to provide participants with an opportunity\u00a0to\u00a0explore some intermediate to advanced tools and techniques relating to the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 platform, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Bluetooth communication between EV3 bricks<\/li>\n<li>Proportional controls<\/li>\n<li>Light-based communication<\/li>\n<li>RCX\u00a0legacy cables and lamps<\/li>\n<li>Compass sensors<\/li>\n<li>Infrared beacons and sensors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the book, Mrs Mallard leads her ducklings\u00a0across Boston, helped at one point by a police officer who stops\u00a0traffic for them.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-12296 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3-1024x701.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"640\" height=\"438\" srcset=\"http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3.png 1024w, http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3-300x205.png 300w, http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3-768x526.png 768w, http:\/\/legoeng.local\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/06\/make-way-for-ducklings-3-600x411.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our initial idea was to\u00a0use a group of robots to model\u00a0the behaviour of\u00a0Mrs Mallard and her ducklings in some way.
